quinces

I've always wanted a quince tree for some reason - it seems very romantic somehow!

Last year there were four - all of which started to rot on the tree, though I rescued quite a bit of usable fruit. This year I had twelve and I've been a bit more attentive and got them before the rot set in some cases.

I looked at a blog the other day where the writer had harvested 120 from one tree and left more on it because she didn't know what she was going to do with the ones she'd picked!

If I had a garden big enough for an orchard, as well as more ordinary fruit, a quince would be there along with damsons, and the hedges would have sloes so we could have sloe gin!
