HMS Sutherland in Loch Fyne
On my way east this morning there was a large grey presence in the upper reaches of Loch Fyne.
I have been told that newly built warships and other vessels use the area to calibrate depth gauges and associated instrumentation. I don't know if that is true but this vessel -which has F81 painted on its' side which apparently identifies it as HMS Sutherland - has only recently been on active service, patrolling off the coast of Libya and is 15 years old.
So the purpose of the visit - as it steams past the Creggans Inn at Strachur - is unclear.
