Tree Of Symbols.

We stayed in Freemantle but spent a very interesting day in Perth. Attended a bell ringing demonstration in a bell tower which houses a set of bells from St Martin's in the Field, London and visited the Perth mint. On our way between the two we passed this Tree of Symbols. It was commissioned by the city of Perth as part of the Hay Street enhancement programme from Kevin Draper. It is made from forged and welded steel and was installed in 2002.

Leaves in the form of symbols reflect the past and current corporate logos of local business, everyday signs and icons.
They represent the layers of local history and activity over the last 100 years and express a sense of continuity linking the past to the present day.
