Angels
Looks like I'm having a bit of an ecclesiastical time at the moment.
From a cathedral yesterday surrounded by parkland and the peace and quiet of that part of St Albans to a Parish church, Holy Trinity, situated on Hounslow High Street, next to the police station and Jobcentre with easy access to a range of pound shops and mobile phone unlocking services. Pretty much the two ends of the socio-economic scale.
One thing Holy Trinity does have in common with St A's Cathedral is a long history. They have just celebrated 800 years of worship on that site. I managed to get a visit recently as I took part in a concert to mark the octa/octocentenary. (Does such a word exist?).
These angels adorn the front. Standing 8ft 6ins high, they were produced by Wilfred Dudeney in 1965 from a design produced some 4 years earlier. Made from polyester resin and fibreglass, they are "flattened and simplified" in style.
I shall try for something a little more secular tomorrow!
