Wheatear

Here's another wheatear, feeding up in the Ringstead Bay National Trust car park before that hop across the channel, then through France and across the Mediterranean. After that all h/she has to do is get over the Sahara and then it's food and warmth all through our winter.

Bird navigation is still a bit of a mystery. Young birds like this don't travel with their parents so they're pre-programmed with some kind of route map. They study the stars while they're in the nest so they can navigate by them. Many perish of course but those that don't return to the same spot.

And there is a back-blip from yesterday:
Sigilum Bailivorum Dorcestre
