Haddo, Aberdeenshire: Waxcap Lawn

We had a fascinating time at Haddo this afternoon, discovering the many species of fungi that are currently fruiting on the formal lawn in front of the house, which is what is termed a Waxcap Grassland.

This one would appear to be a type of Coral Fungus, although there were plenty of Waxcaps there too, from a variety of species.

Strangely, at first we didn't notice any - then once we'd spotted the first one or two we quickly realised there were literally hundreds of fruiting bodies growing everywhere across the lawn.

The National Trust are in fact organising a Fungi Foray on the lawns at Haddo next Saturday afternoon, 8th October.
