Car Free Sunday

We decided we have been spending way to much time in our automobile lately, so we decided to try a day using nothing but public transit. This experiment happened to coincide with free museum day at various downtown L.A. locations. I checked the metro website and was reasonable certain we could get to where we wanted using only the trains and buses of this car-centric city. Our hub was to be Union Station, where this view of the roof at the east entrance was taken.

The first issue we encountered was that the metro blue line from Long Beach did not end up at Union Station. The bus we needed was just a couple of blocks away however, but it never arrived. A fellow passenger finally got through to the metro hotline and found out they were detoured a couple of streets over. We then decided that we needed to get to Union Station on the metro red line. Easily done, except when we arrived there was no clear direction to the bus we needed. We took the first one that came along, then decided it was heading the wrong direction. We finally got on one heading in what we thought was the right direction only to find that it was the exact opposite way we needed to go. By this time we were close to where we had gotten off the blue line, so we hopped it back to Long Beach without getting to visit any of the free museums. A very exasperating day except we got to see a lot of the city.
