Arboretum Entrance

This is another 'passing in the car' blip, so has the same Pisa-ish properties as the one from yesterday.

I have fond memories of the Arboretum, famous venue of Walsall Illuminations, which was a real event (contrary to popular household opinion!) until fairly recent years.

The park was opened in 1874 and owing to local limestone mining it boasted a couple of lakes and even a steam boat, 'Lady of the Lake'.
Apparently the boat sank in 1886, but rumours of 'a bottomless lake' persisted for local schoolchildren up to the 1980s. Maybe even now?
Who couldn't love a 'bottomless pit' story?

I wonder whether a band ever plays these days on the bandstand?
