"You're as cold as ice"

I drove down to the bay (the Great South Bay) because it has been pretty cold lately and I figured it might be frozen. Turns out I was right. I've heard that a while ago (~50 years) the bay use to freeze solid enough to drive across, which people did apparently. What they did on Fire Island in the middle of winter I couldn't guess.
