An Old Airman's Life

Another Drum Circle

Was a busy day for me. Went to church and was a the assisting minister. My favorite part of the job is blessing the little kids who are too young for communion. Their eyes light up and their smiles warms me.

After church, I watched the Cowboys vs Lions football (American) game. Cowboys stadium is a gigantic building that is a spectacle all to itself. The local team was winning so I decided to take a little nap. While I napped, the home team lost. I feared the natives were going to be restless, but was surprised by the lack of hostility.

Went to Kyrie at 5 p.m. This is a gathering of folks who meet in a bar the first and third Sundays of each month. It is not church exactly. Many people from many faith backgrounds attend. This Sunday, we had a drum circle. Well it was called a drum circle but it was more a bunch of folks sitting in a pub sipping on beer and eating Tex Mex food playing drums, tambourines and other percussion instruments. I had a great time even though I cannot carry a beat.

Then I rushed off to the Night Riders. It was great because my wife is riding again. I always like it when she rides. As we approached a busy cross street, I went to push the pedestrian crossing button to get the light to change. When I transitioned from street to sidewalk, my bike's tires got caught, and I fell. I knew that I had banged up my left thumb, but did not think it was too bad. The thumb still works, but gives me grief whenever I try to use it. I always forget how connected our bodies are. Pressure one place applies pressure somewhere else causing pain. And having a thumb is something I took for granted until this morning when I tried buttoning my pants this morning. Not fun. But such is life.
