Day 5 - Horse Ride For Henry and Kyle
After checking our maps last night we were pleased to discover we had a slightly shorter day (around 17 miles instead of 21). The initial showers cleared and we had much better weather.
Lime's sore looked better so I put on plenty of padding and put his saddle slightly further back to avoid the sore and Cara sorted out some better padding for under Osh's saddle. We both ached from the bareback riding but it was worth it to be able to continue.
Today felt more exciting as we climbed up passed several reservoirs onto the moors and left the Mary Townley loop to continue on the recently opened Northern section of the bridleway. Lime felt tired today and Osh, who is used to doing endurance rides (though not on this scale) was being really stubborn and lazy and Mike managed to get a hilarious bit of video of Cara grabbing a handful of long reedy grass to gee Osh on with in place of her whip which she dropped. It felt really good to have a proper belly laugh.
Our accommodation for the night was at a 16th century sheep farm and a bit wierd. We could see the horses in their field from Cara's bedroom window but when turning them out saw they were to share their field with the remains of a long departed sheep! There were lots of witchy themed things hanging in the house and a broomstick!!
Managed to get through several bottles of wine tonight! We deserve it!
