Beautiful deceit
There are so many gorgeous wildflowers blooming here in the Rockies!
Scarlet red indian paintbrush, dappled brown chocolate lilies, small and delicate yellow mountain avens, sprightly purple lupine, soft pink wild roses, and even delicate ghostly white orchids like this lady's slipper complete with attendant - a perfectly camouflaged crab spider.
A deceit two times over. The orchid deceiving it's pollinators through chemical cues that mimic insect pheremones but offering no pollen reward. And the crab spider using this deceit to capture visiting flys and bees amorous and unaware. Intricate, treacherous, and oh so beautiful.
