Can I have some Moore please Sir?
Everyone should gather that Arsenal are my football team from previous blips. However that is not how family wanted me to turn out, they are All massive hammers (West Ham). I was obviously the black sheep of the family. Through the years I have learnt a lot about west ham, as the family won't shut up about them. So when I saw a competition in my work newsletter for the 'Viva Bobby Moore' show I figured why not go for tickets, & through the luck of the draw I won two. So I took my older brother who is the biggest hammer of the family.
The show was mainly about 'Bobby Moore', who was an England & West Ham legend. It featured ex west ham player & Bobbys good friend, Brian Dear (Who I found out is the father of one of my mums old friends). Mike Summerbee (Who was a really funny guy), Alan Mullery (Ex Spurs), Ex West ham manager Billy Bonds (Who got the biggest reception of the night), & Commentator Jonathan Pierce (Recognised the voice before the face!). There was also a story of a 9 year old boy who walked from Wembley to Upton Park to raise money for the Bobby Moore fund. His nan died of the same disease as Bobby & he wanted to follow in his sisters footsteps by raising money. However the £36,200 he raised made him outshine his sister. It's story's like that make you realise how good people can be, especially kids.
The host Tony Gale spoke to each guest individually & then at the end as a group. Each guest had their own story's of Bobby, & all were emotional by the end of the night. It showed a non-Hammer exactly how much he meant to the club. It also told stories of how he wasn't perfect either.
It was a good night in all, which was good as I was recovering from a long & boring course throughout the day. It's all important stuff to learn but the course givers have very little personality. Even though one looks like a chubbier Steven Page of Ex Barenaked Ladies Fame.
