Day to day

I try to read the local newspaper every day, but my question is, "Does it really matter?" There are things of interest, but also, there are a lot of things I didn't need to know. A friend of mine commented that after he stopped watching the news on TV his outlook on life improved greatly. They are so quick to report all of the bad news, and sometimes even report the "feel good" news. Did we really need to know all of that? Does it really matter?
