Mr Rubik... why on earth did you think this up?

Is it just me or is it really scary when you get a new Rubik's cube and it's still in it's 'finished' stage? I know that if it gets scrambled there's a one in a million chance I'll be able to unscramble it. So I play around, moving only 2 or 3 moves at a time before moving them straight back, just incase I forget what I did.

I really would be upset if it were to get scrambled. I'd either have to find an expert who could unscramble it or buy a new one. I don't like to cheat so taking the stickers off and putting them back in the right place wouldn't be an option. That'd be like turning round 3 times clockwise then 2 times anti-clockwise, the universe would be out of balance.

I've often wondered how it was conceived. What kind of twisted mind does it take to come up with such a torturous device?! That said, it's a great Hungarian invention, alongside the Biro pen. Although László Bíró was totally shafted by Marcel Bich so made a lot less money from his idea than Bich did.
