Bicycle day
Today the complete country was shut down. The Jewish neighbourhoods at least; we still went for a English style afternoon tea with mini sandwiches and scones to a hotel in East Jerusalem.
My boyfriend always told me that Yom Kippur was his favourite holiday as a child, because where he grew up all the children would play in the empty streets and drive bicycles even on the empty highways. So I was looking forward to making pictures of that and took my camera with me when we left the house.
But as it turns out, here in Jerusalem this is not the case - probably because of the vast amounts of religious Jewish people that observe this holiday in a religious way. Before sunset though, on our way back home, we came across a few kids with bicycles.
