Back to Beijing after a fabulous break in London and Amsterdam, and struggling with jet lag- hoping that 13 hours' sleep last night does not mean no hours' sleep tonight!

No surprise that the pollution is terrible today- it always is at this time of year. I think the factories all close for Golden Week (a national holiday), and opened again yesterday in earnest. Entertained myself with my photograph I took almost exactly the same day last year: smog

Still, brave beings that we are, we ventured out for supplies. It's definitely getting on for winter so chili con carne tonight and leek and potato soup for during the week. And now we're going to hide inside until the air recovers, and C is going to apply for jobs in less-polluted places. Hurrah!
