Alkaff Art Bridge

by Pacita Abad

The Alkaff Bridge was buit in 1997 as part of the river redevelopment, encouraging people to walk along both banks around the Robertson's Quay area. It only came into it's own in 2004 when it was repainted by Phillipino artist Pacita Abad.

This was also the year Pacita died; she was undergoing chemotherapy throughout the work. Inspirational stuff, my quick phone snap certainly doesn't do it justice; but maybe the blondies' desire to have their photo taken next to "the pretty bridge" reflects what she was hoping to achieve.

It's supposed to be fun.
