Pleached Hornbeams
At the big house, there are six blocks of these wonderful pleached hornbeam trees.
The trees have been planted in rectangles, then trained and carefully pruned. A few branches of new growth from adjoining trees are tied together so that the leaved area forms one continuous stretch.
Working with trees in this way is known as pleaching.
I find it fascinating and very attractive.
