A return to what was originally called the Xtreme Hotel in Cape Town on Friday. Last year's visit shown here produced a raft of interesting pics, the return nowhere near as many.

Firstly, being Friday evening, it was very busy. Then it became clear that in its original guise, the hotel had not prospered and had been taken over by a local hospitality group and re-named the Fire and Ice. I wonder what marketing genius thought of that one?

Anyway, it's lost some of its visual bite and as a result, its appeal.

For the first time in more than 150 Blips, I did some hectic PS fiddling with this one - I usually confine myself to curves, cropping and a bit of output sharpening...

Still, the beer was cold ;-)

Tom? He is Laura's (no. 1 daughter) boyfriend.
