Time for cracking this seasons nuts
My dad has both walnut and hazelnut trees in his garden. He's shared his crops with me this year. What a treat to have genuinely raw, fresh nuts.
After peeling off their green outer husks, and leaving them to dry off for a few weeks I decided to open them today. A gentle thwack with a rolling pin was all that was required to break the shell. The nut themselves taste amazing, sharp yet creamy, dancing with robust flavour. Not sure how long they'll keep: I probably won't find out, as they're too good to put away.
