Somehow, despite the saddle remaining exactly where I'd put it with my weight upon it all the way up the cobbledy Royal Mile on the way in to work to drop off some shirts and round the New Town a bit (including lumpily-cobbled Randolph Place), supporting the mere weight of the (albeit steel-framed) bicycle itself for probably less than a minute in total caused it to come loose and start tipping backwards when I set off home along Heriot Row, requiring re-adjusting by the time I'd crossed Dundas Street.

Though still not properly commute-capable without some more fiddling with the brakes and load-bearing facilities I at least managed to get to work and back on this this evening, an important psychological achievement even if I've gone much further on it before now than the bare-minimum 3.2 mile route I selected this evening. Some newly-flaking paint discovered on the properbike this afternoon (the result of trying to take care of it by removing all the glagged-on leaf litter from four or five trips along the Roseburn path last week) means it might have to have the crank removed in order to do a bit of sanding and Hammeriting which would probably keep it out of action for a few working days at the rate I usually get bicycle-fixing things done, especially ones involving the removal of vital components requiring special tools and lots of space. Fortunately some of yesterday was spent removing some of the larger and more troublesome items of crap from the dining room/library/garage which has returned the amount of floorspace to March 2011 levels, during which time there was sufficient room to build a wheel on the floor.
