A quick stolen photo from the taxi today...

This man is responsible for the safe road- crossing of pedestrians (the lowest importance in transport hierarchy here) and cyclists at a horrible junction in the Dashanzi area of Beijing. His vest says 'jiaotong', which (after a quick check of the dictionary, I'm ashamed to say) apparently means 'liaison'. Quite a grand title for red-flag waving and whistle-blowing, but then he does risk being ignored/ shouted at/ run-over on a regular basis. All credit to him.

If there is one thing China is very good at, it is job creation...
