It was a day for this. For photographs and signatures, hugs and penultimate goodbyes. Some will happen again, once exams are done, but it was a day for celebrating our friendships, formed through adversity and hopefully surviving on long past the echoes of lectures fade away.
The day started with breakfast, just our small group of friends, a few final classes, and then the celebrations started for real. The annual final year lunch kicked off at the yacht club 5 minutes down the road, and a steady stream of students poured in until it was buzzing with excitement. Food came and went, a fabulous year group video was shown, we chatted, mingled, autographed each other's year books, and photographed it all.
The sun shone fabulously, the party moved outside, the beer flowed, and slowly an unsteady stream of students wobbled back up to continue at the end of semester barrel. I suspect some are still going now.
It's been a bad year for study, but a brilliant year for friendship. I've been friends with some of these guys since high school, others I've only met this year, but I can't wait to see where these friendships go. I think we've got a long history ahead of us.
