David Hume

I had a meeting at Haymarket at 11 and a meeting at St Andrew's House at 2. As I made my way from one to the other I stopped by at the cemetery off Waterloo Place and paid my respects to David Hume.

It's a sad indictment of my undergraduate education that I managed to study Politics at Edinburgh University for two years without ever reading even a sentence of David Hume's work. If you asked me even now what I know about him, I'd just shrug my shoulders, and say the names of other vaguely similar people: Locke, Hobbes, Rousseau. Or maybe even the names of the other people that had buildings in George Square named after them: Adam Ferguson, William Robertson. It's terrible, really. I'm ashamed.
