In Search of Puifin . . .

A survivor . . .

The Black-tailed jackrabbit also known as the Desert hare is common in the American West.

Many a young marksman began his/her hunting career with with this abundant but shy, elusive Lepus californicus.

When I was growing up, mink farms would sometimes pay $0.25/rabbit and use them for food. It was not unheard of to shoot 100 to 200 of these rabbits in a day.

But times change. The mink have disappeared. The young hunters too have thinned out considerably. But the jackrabbit still survives.
