The Windy City
I'm on sensory overload. A gorgeous blue sky and sunshine for H's birthday today - we started with hours at the Art Institute - there is a new modern wing we had to check out. Big open spaces. This photo is taken from one of the new galleries through the sun shades to the garden in Millennium Park and Frank Gehry's building structure for the outdoor amphitheater, and some skyscrapers. The sculpture is Henry Moore. Just liked the structure of it. almost wanted to blip the Cloudgate again thus time with clear blue reflections, but actually think the rainy one more interesting. We had to go visit some old friends at the AI, particularly Seurat's A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. (Vuillard, Matisse) We really liked the new Children's education section.(of course we went to see that)
THEN an Architectural Foundation boat tour on the Chicago River that was fantastic - oh my, too bad I won't remember what all the building photos are and who designed them. It was hard not to blip one- I'll have to make a little Chicago show somewhere.
Nice early birthday dinner ( more key lime pie for H!). And walk 3 blocks to the theater to see Red, John Logan's award winning play about Mark Rothco, which was very powerful - especially after having seen some real Rothco's this morning.
I best quit- could we do any more? Good night. Tomorrow is another day!
