Not every day

Holes filled and drilled

Lost a filling in my muesli. Had meetings all morning, and by the time I started phoning dentists they were winding down for the weekend. Eventually I found one who could offer me an emergency appointment, but I had to get there quickly so took the car, which had been sitting in the university car park for two weeks. As I drove I could hear water sloshing about alarmingly...

The dentist was great, and quick, and didn't charge more than the Denplan fee which made a change. Afterwards I drove around a bit until I found a backstreet garage. This nice guy with a ponytail quickly found that the water was in the offside door sills (as I suspected). He said there was little chance of working out how it got in, but agreed to drill a few holes to let it out again. He didn't want any money, but seemed happy when I gave him a fiver to buy a couple of pints (or one and a half, at least).

So there we are; a good afternoon's work. I now know where there's a good dentist who won't rip me off, and a good car mechanic who won't rip me off. Two of modern life's essentials.
