Sweet Lines
Feeling a bit under the weather today -- or more accurately, unlike the weather today, which was sunny and delightful -- I came up with a still life of sorts.
The three golden narrow tubes are three-fifths of one of the best bargains at our farmers' market, where you can buy one of the tubes, filled with honey from Backyard Bees, for 25 cents, or five honey sticks for one dollar.
Yes, I know the honey is encased in plastic, and I don't like food being kept in plastic and don't hesitate to say so, and the empty plastic tube can't be recycled, but in this case, I make an exception. Besides, our grandchildren love them.
The tube (6.75 inches/17.1 cm) keeps the sweet stickiness confined until you bite (or cut) off the end, squeeze the bottom of the tube, and enjoy... a full half teaspoon (2.46 ml) of local honey. That's about 10 calories.
Compared to other sweet treats, it's a bargain in cost and calories. And I think the honey sticks look pretty in this little bottle, which, in a curious coincidence, once held maple syrup.
