Fritz Stern Lecture at American Academy, Wannsee
There is distinct benefits when your big sister starts working for an organisation such as the American Academy in Berlin, a private institution aiming at promoting the intellectual exchange between Germany and America. For example, you get invited to fancy events with a rather impressive guestlist.
Yesterday, my brother and I went out to Wannsee to this beautiful, old villa on the lake where a lecture was held by Prof. Dr. Stolleis about international law under the swastika. Needless to say, I didn't get all of it, but it was very interesting nonetheless. Even better was the fact that Fritz Stern, eminent historian and writer, who had given his name to the event, was present himself, and me and my brother both got our books signed by him on this very table. What a lovely, lovely, and most impressive old man.
