Pleasure Boats at Kumarakom

Our last day in Kerala, so we hired a tuk-tuk to go into the nearby village; our driver insisted on giving us a guided tourof the church, temple and market. Kerala was, apparently, until very recently a Communist run state and there was a well-attended union meeting going on by the river and communist flags everywhere. Certainly the people of Kerala seem to enjoy a much better standard of living than those we saw in our first week further north and the whole area appeared to be far more affluent and relaxed.
