Carline Thistle - Carlina vulgaris

The Carline Thistle (Carlina vulgaris) is commonly found growing on chalk and limestone soils, particularly in the south of England.

The pale, almost white bracts are an obvious recognition feature.
This was growing on the Downs opposite my mother's house.

Fortunately, we are enjoying several days of predominantly blue skies though a bit on the chilly side. Long may they last.
