My Opera Experience
Whilst I am an avid theatre goer and support my local theatre (it's my second home), I have never before been to an opera. That was until a lovely friend of mine ValleyAllBlack asked if I would like to go.
The opera we saw was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's, Don Giovanni, presented by the Welsh National Opera.
It is set in 16th centuary Seville, Spain, and is about a "lady's man" to say the least (conquests amount to over two thousand women) who escapes after murdering the father of Donna Anna, a woman he tried to rape. Over the next few hours we see Don Giovanni seducing more women before finally coming face to face with Donna Anna's father's statue. Don Giovanni asks his servant, Leporello, to invite the statue for supper and the statue agrees. At that supper the statue offers Don Giovanni the chance to repent his sins and when he does not accept this offer, Don Giovanni is dragged down to hell.
I must say I had the most enjoyable evening and have definitely got the opera bug now. I cannot understand why I have not attended one before. As previously mentioned, I practicaly live in the theatre and see a wide range of things, plays, musicals, ballets, stand-up comedians, one man/woman shows, pantos, etc but never an opera.
No doubt I will let you all know when I do this again.
