Too tired to write up the editing... but... I duplicated the background layer then used Filter > Render > Lighting effects and an omni light to brighten the area in shadow. Used a warming photo filter and then flattened the lot. Duplicated the background layer and sharpened, then used a black brush on the layer mask of the second layer to get rid of the parts I didn't want too sharp.

That was about it!

Tip of the day:
Not so much a tip as a bit of revision about exposure and the use of the Exposure Triangle. Nice clear explanation of how ISO, shutter speed and aperture work together. Useful!
