Coconut, carob and date sweets

I always associate the end of October with coconuts. It's a childhood memory. I used to live near Hull and the last weeks of October is linked to the big annual Hull Fair, a mecca for thrill seeking kids and adults alike. If you could only afford to gawk at the rides, slides and merry-go-rounds, there was the equally exotic candy-floss, toffee-apples, pomegranites, sweet chestnuts, and, of course, coconuts to win or buy on penny stalls.
