Massive Lime Kilns At Roche Harbor
I really loved this as it shows the amazing history of Roche Harbor and it's lime production. This is one of two massive lime kiln, made with local materials, that were used from about 1870 until the mid 1900's. They were first used by British Soldiers who were stationed at British Camp in nearby Garrison Bay and later it was an American company that produced the lime which was used in the production of cement that was heavily used after the 1906 earthquake and resulting fires in San Francisco, to help in rebuilding the city.
