Diatrype
Having a lot of trouble getting about with my crocked knee so today's fungi is brought to you courtesy of the spaniel - it was on the branch he decided to carry home. Similar to yesterday's hypoxylon, this is another of the 'spot' fungi. This one is the diatrype discifomis, a really common fungi that emerges through the bark on dead deciduous wood. The discs are quite small, up to about 3mm across and black in colour. I'm really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel now in terms of finding new fungi.
