Beauty and the Beast - October Origins

Before I start, the beast is not one of those lovely ladies, it the dentist itself (not himself). Hopefully thats cleared that up.

My fear of going to the dentist, like most people, start when I was a child. We used to have to go to the dentist in Bettws health centre, where as I remember it, a large Egyptian dentist used to attend to us. There was no finesse or patience about him just sit down inject, drill, fill and out ( a bit like sex after you been married for a few years). When we complained about the pain he would just say nearly there and carry on for what seemed an age. So guess what, when I was old enough to decide for my self I just didn't go.

Then after meeting my good lady wife she convinced me to go to her dentist in Blackwood. I was bricking it, but I have to say what an awesome dentist he is. I still hate going, still get butterflies in the stomach and clammy hands, but if he wasn't as good as he is I just wouldn't go, and that would be the worst decision anyone can make.

So on to today, the time had come to go again to the dentist. I knew I missed last year because of problems in work, but apparently I haven't been since 2009. That shocked me bit, but time does fly and you don't remember things you don't like. But what a success, I may have a cracked tooth with was filled about 30year ago which I suspected, but nothing else. X-rays completed so just waiting to see if anything needs to be done.

Then it was off to the hygienists, they do a great job. After they finish it always seems like I have someone else's teeth, so nice and clean. I plucked up the courage to take a snap of them but unfortunately didn't do them justice as it is a little out of focus. I think deep down, even though it was all over I still wanted to get the hell out of Dodge. So a swift exit was made back out into the fresh air. Time to relax.
