The Gantry
I chose a slow start to the day, and a midday run. Went down to the waterfront and then crossed the bridge connecting Viaduct Harbour to the Wynyard Quarter.
In August I posted a shot of Wind Tree, which can also be seen here. Behind and to the left is The Gantry. This steel structure has been built to provide a means of getting high enough to obtain panoramic views of the whole of the Wynyard Quarter, including the old "Tank Farm", some of which can be seen on the right.
These tanks are used (still) for the storage of seriously flammable substances such as petrol. Brightly coloured corrugated iron panels separate the public area from the tanks. Old silos (out of shot to the left) are going to be developed as a part of the public space.
The children's playground also in that direction is great fun, although complaints that the area should be for adults may result in the playground being moved elsewhere. This is beyond my comprehension; there are enough adult areas, that they do not need to eject children from the one part of it which is being such fun for them.
Pleased to report that my computers have been got back to proper functioning, and quite efficiently too. Seems to have been some sort of bug in the antivirus programme!!! So I hope to be back to commenting more frequently.
