Emulation #7 Goatee Booknerd
Via Colonia Glevum Nervensis
I am sure Goatee Booknerd understands the title. I have struggled to find some interesting historical perspective, but I have given it a try.
This signpost can be found at the 'historic' town pump in Thornbury. It is only of use if you wish to travel to Gloucester, the other 2 directions one could travel in (Bristol or Thornbury Castle) clearly have little merit, and pale in to insignificance when compared to Gloucester!
Notable alumni of Gloucester include John Stafford Smith (1750-1836), the composer of the American national anthem and the tailor from the Beatrix Potter story.
Of minor curiosity, the original town pump was removed in 1924 due to concerns about pedestrian and vehicle safety. An early example of zeolous risk assessments.
Other examples from this emulation mini-series, can be seen other the last 7 entries.
