Impetus

This woman is selling buttons because the impetus for change, Barack Obama, came to our school today.

rvastu attended Obama's assembly as an official member of the press, and pocho and stez got VIP seating. It was the single most abnormal day of school ever; I went to two classes in the morning and spent the rest of my day hovering around the gym area to take pictures or watching Obama's speech and question-and-answer session as it was cast on our TVs throughout the school.

Something about hearing that man speak is just inspiring. Maybe it was just that he's a good speaker. Maybe it was the knowledge that he was so close yet so far. Maybe it was how he kept mentioning our town or our school and he knew we exist. Maybe it was the fact that his voice was ringing through the hallway even though he was too far for everyone to hear, but I found myself believing everything he said and believing in him.

And then, after school, after all the crazy picture taking and hunting for extra tickets and sweating and laughing and running around, I watched with about two dozen other people as Obama walked out of my school gym and back onto his bus.

It's not much. But it made it real.
