the last day proper of half term and although it started out misty the sun shone through and we were left with a gorgeously sunny, crisp autumn day.

Where to go? Matlock Bath - the Blackpool of the Peaks. The people of Derbyshire as the most landlocked county need to get our fix of the seaside somehow

The illuminations finish this weekend (just as Blackpool's started this week) and every other shop is either ice-cream, fish and chip, amusement, gift or sweet shop.

We visited the giant koi carp (some over 30lbs) and the petrifying well that I remember well from my childhood.

No trip in the cable cars up to the Heights of Abraham today though.
