The Mason's Arms
Well, actually it's his hands that I was watching more intently to be honest, but 'The Mason's Hands' didn't seem quite such a pithy title.
I'm fascinated by stonemasons. I have been since reading The Pillars of the Earth in about 1995. If you haven't read it, please do. No, really, please do, it's a wonderful novel. Channel 4 aired a mini-series based on it a bit ago that was a very good adaptation, but as is always the case, the book is better.
There's something timeless about the art of masonry. Timeless and enchanting somehow. Which is why I am so chuffed that York Minster, whilst effecting major repairs, have erected a temporary masons' yard where we can watch what's happening.
Even if only from a safe distance. Watch out for flying chips.
