Suicidal Pheasant . . .

Postie quite often gets given surplus goodiesg by customers on his round and frequently comes home with a cabbage, a bag of carrots, tatties, beetroot, or jars of jam or chutney, cuttings of plants, seedlings or eggs. As he left for work yesterday morning I realised we were running low on veg and so, as an aside, said that if anyone offered him a cabbage, say yes!

He came home, not with a cabbage, but with a pheasant! The poor thing had flown straight into the post van's windscreen and was dead as a dodo. Looking on line, I see they are shown hung by the neck. Why do we hang rabbit by the feet and game birds by the neck? Any ideas?
