Occupy Bellingham
I dropped C off at the the Farmers' Market this morning before going to take photos at the NSEA/City of Bellingham/REI work party at Connelly Creek. Afterwards I stopped by the Occupy Bellingham camp in Marine Heritage Park before picking up C.
I was also driving Miss Annie. She slept in the car while I was at the work party, but she toured the Occupy Bellingham camp with me.
As you can see, the camp is not very big, but it's well organized. The bark mulch trail was put down to prevent damage to the lawn by foot traffic to the Porta-Potty at the edge of the park. While I was there the protesters were sitting on the park steps listening to a presentation. It looked a bit like an outdoor business meeting, except for the very non-businesslike garb of the attendees.
I don't expect any violent confrontations with the police -- Bellingham is a very laid-back tolerant kind of place. It will be interesting to see how long the camp lasts. I'm not sure what it will accomplish, but I support the protesters's attempts to change the system. It's badly broken.
