NZ South Island Robin
Kiwilizzie and I went for a drive up to Maruia Springs today and took a walk up Watercourse Creek to the waterfalls at the top. Lovely walk, lovely waterfalls, lovely native bush.
On the way home kiwilizzie pulled into the picnic area where she had photographed a robin last weekend. I have never actually seen a robin in the wild before so was very excited when this robin showed up. She was delightful, showing off and dancing around us. She was particularly interested in that other bird in the windows and mirror. I wonder if she's looking for a mate as it is breeding season.
It was incredibly hard to choose which of my 100 photos to blip so I've also loaded some into my blipfolio.
I'm fairly sure this is a girl robin. The girls are a lighter grey than the boys who are almost black, and they don't have the faint cream strips on their heads and back that the boys have.
Viewed in large you can see her very unladylike whiskers.
