Woke up to the sound of rain pinging on the metal roof, which is a fantastic sound to lull me back sleep. Instead it was up, shower, breakfast, and on the road to the Homestead for a falconry lesson. Driving through the mountains there was snow, which seemed wrong given that it is still October, but at least by the sun came out by the time we arrived at the Homestead.
There were five birds, a falcon, two Harris Hawks, an African Redtail Hawk, and owl. The owl was big, chatty, and very cool looking. We worked with a Harris hawk. I was surprised at how light it was and how softly it landed on the glove. Incredible.
After leaving the Homestead we went for a short hike in Douthat State Park before heading home. Fantastic day.
