I ventured up to the top of the Ward of Scousburgh today - it is in effect the main communications link from Shetland to the rest of the world. In addition to modern telecommunications kit there is the remains of some much older (World War II vintage) radar installations.

I don't know when this SOS box dates from, but I suspect it's not been used in emergency or otherwise for a while.
