HEAR YE !

It looks like this Black shag wants to be heard and it reminded me of the fact the " Town Cryer " is back in the Central City of Christchurch. Isnt that great! - He has a bell, a feather in his hat a chubby red uniform and he cries out a lot of nonsense about whats going on in the City - Just like the old days!

There's a story about the Black shag too ! - Back in the 1930's there was a bounty on them. It was 2/6d in the old money - Good money for the time and as a consequence it was wholesale slaughter at the Rookeries.
Reason being the - The wealthy Acclimatisation Society license holders didnt like them eating the young troutlings. Acclimatised fish were an introduced species - the Black shags were already here!
Hmmm - they had to eat - the shags I mean !!
