Standing in the footsteps of a fellow Manc
This is Dewar's Lane in Berwick-upon-Tweed - an unremarkable, if quaint, little close which leads down to the quayside. But its place in history was captured by L. S. Lowry in 1936 during one of his many visits to the town. Apparently the many windows in the granary building (the one on the right with the leaning wall) reminded him of the mills back in Manchester.
When you look at Lowry's drawing you can see how little the lane has changed over the past 75 years. This was my first visit to Berwick and I was taken by the amount of history that exists there.
